Vision: advancing arts for health

Mission: To mobilize community members for collective wellbeing through arts in health projects and programming in Nigeria.

National Arts in Health Conference is a gathering of students, professionals, cultural organizations, healthcare institutions, Community members and stakeholders in health and community wellbeing.

Held once every two years, this event highlights the importance of community engagements in health. It focuses on advocacy for arts in health from local to the national level through education on arts and medicine, art practices in hospitals, healthcare centers and amongst communities. This event would engage government agencies, diplomatic missions in Nigeria, NGO’s, civic societies, art groups, faith-based organizations, academic institutions, healthcare professionals, artists, art enthusiasts, mental health advocates, musicians, dancers, poets, educators, researchers, curators, scholars, the media and other stakeholders in advocating for and advancing arts for our collective health across communities in Nigeria.

 

The inaugural NAHCON event would be a hybrid experience as Nigerians would be participating in both online and on-site activities.  The conference lineup includes paper/research presentations, art exhibitions, tour of hospital murals, art sessions in wellness rooms, self-therapeutic art activities, expos, community art support and services, conversations on mental health and social justice, collaborative arts projects between artists and healthcare professionals.

 

Objectives:

  • Increase the awareness and the benefits of arts on community wellbeing
  • Create collaborative engagements between artists and healthcare practitioners
  • Engage diplomatic missions, government agencies, academic institutions, healthcare organizations, civic societies and members of the community in advancing arts in health in Nigeria
  • Inaugurate the first Arts and Health Innovation hub in Nigeria
  • Provide platform for public and private sector engagement in policy design on arts and health advocacy
  • Facilitate a national arts and health programs which would benefit 1 million Nigerians in the next 10 years directly and indirectly
  • Establish the National Arts in Health week in Nigeria
